My Reign of Terror
This list played a very important role in my last sermon. All the punishments listed are the theoretical maximum, if I were sentenced consecutively without any other factors considered (like my age at the time or my repeat felon status). And it's also only one count on each, even though several I've committed numerous times.

If you're wondering, I have never been arrested and I have never gotten a ticket. Feel free to ask about any of these crimes and I will be happy to share the story.

In Kentucky it appears it is even a "Class D" felony.

According to http://www.lrc.state.ky.us/KRS/526-00/020.PDF:

526.020 Eavesdropping.
(1) A person is guilty of eavesdropping when he intentionally uses any device to
eavesdrop, whether or not he is present at the time.
(2) Eavesdropping is a Class D felony.
Effective: January 1, 1975
History: Created 1974 Ky. Acts ch. 406, sec. 227, effective January 1, 1975.

Article 250 of the NY Penal Law.

A person is guilty of eavesdropping when he unlawfully engages in wiretapping, mechanical overhearing of a conversation, or intercepting or accessing of an electronic communication.

"Unlawfully" means not specifically authorized by the laws of New York.

"Mechanical overhearing" means the intentional overhearing of a conversation without the consent of at least one party thereto, by a person not present thereat, by means of any instrument, device or equipment.

I have done this accidentally with a cordless phone (it picked up someone else's conversation), but continuing to listen made it intentional.

I heard one side of a phone conversation once using a radio scanner. I think it must have used different frequencies to transmit and receive. Would that count as eavesdropping when you only hear one of the people having the conversation?

Not in New York, in my opinion. There's no 'conversation' if you only hear one side.

So, when is your statute of limitations up? Not that I would turn you in or anything...

Heh, well, for most of these, I think I'm pretty clear. And you'll notice I'VE never improperly shipped alcohol across state lines!

Wow, I was expecting you to comment on that a long time ago. True confession: I have’t shipped it yet. I have a friend who seems to like it. But I’ve broken plenty of other laws, such as failure to stop at a posted stop sign.

I've never commented on yours because I can never remember my Blogger name and password.

That’s really not a very good excuse, but I’ll let it slide this one time :) Here’s a hint: There is no security on my blog. Click on the Post a Comment link, then click on “Other” under “Choose an Itentity.” Enter “stegin” for the username, and “http://www.livejournal.com/users/stegin” for the website.

When did you pull off the Grand Larceny thing? And, even though theoretically there's no difference between Charles Manson and Mother Teresa if I was choosing a cell mate or a baby sitter or something I would definitely go with the nun.

The secret is that Grand Larceny 4th is committed any time you steal something - anything at all - from anyone's person. That covers a lot.

Section 160.10 Robbery in the second degree

A person is guilty of robbery in the second degree when he forcibly steals property and when:

1. He is aided by another person actually present

I have five younger siblings, and I'm as certain as I can be that this scenario played itself out a few times...
